WTF is Wrong

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Normally, everyone would just say it’s raining cats and dogs. But now, that phrase doesn’t quite cut it anymore. I don’t care what met department says, but after the 26/7 incident a few years back, the pouring has just kept on increasing year after year. In the past, it used to rain 3-4 days continously and then it would STOP. That’s no longer true. Believe me cause I hate them and keep secret logs. And the administration has very well realized, you can’t stop floods so just prepare for the worst case. Where were these when I was getting drowned on 26/7/05.

Should I Be Afraid?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Got this email last week. When I was just about to report it as spam, I noticed the other details.

It’s hard to accept that a bot would be doing all this. Best guess – someone/somebot has been following my blog extensively and drawing logical conclusions. Most of it is all there on the blog anyways: Eee PC, Mumbai, GIS, iPhone, etc. Except for the fact that I hate rains. But that figures if you’ve spent some time here.

So, the big question, am I being stalked? Hmm…

WGA Strike is Over, Finally!!!

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Thank heavens that the writers strike is over and now they can get back drafting those super crazy story lines for TV shows. I guess it has been three months now since they stopped doing what they’re supposed to do. Suck it up, enjoy the new contract and get back to work ASAP. I desperately need my favorite TV shows back on air! It’s unfortunate that there would be some delays, major cuts in the episode list and some of the shows will have to be axed or dropped completely for this season.

Losing Your Cellphone Is So Cool

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I think I may have dropped the phone (accidentally) during a good nap on my commute back home from college. Apart from the pain of losing some of your old, non-regular contacts, it feels nothing. As a matter of fact, I am happy to live a few days without the annoyance of the same. Getting back the old number on a new handset would turn out to be quite a task since I am taking about Reliance CDMA here. The handset which I lost was an old one having no RUIM (SIM card), so not sure what the actual procedure is.

I guess, I will have to do a bit of research for CDMA handsets. More of them are poor in battery life with complete lack of features.

Last 30 odd days have been real busy. So many things to look forward to, so many things to do, so many ideas exploding in my brain and so many people to be in touch with. All this sometimes makes me go insane, but I live to fight another day or think it never happened.

GIS All this Week

Monday, December 10th, 2007

Officially, I’m on vacation till college resumes for the final semester (yay!) sometime mid-Jan. So, the last couple of weeks I’ve been doing what I enjoy the most – sleeping (during day time), web surfing and watching TV Shows. Just when I thought, life was going great doing nothing, came in this spoil sport news from my project colleague. The news that we’re gonna have special sessions for an unknown software demonstration throughout this week from 10-to-5.

At first though, I knew it would suck badd. But I was so wrong and I’m glad that I dragged my lazy ass to college and attended this ‘workshop’. The good thing is there are only 8-10 students and the session is specifically for GIS. GIS is the only part of Civil Engg. academics which comes to me naturally. Of course, it involves a computer and that in a way gives me the proverbial ‘upper hand’ but still it’s one interesting subject with some real world use not-involving excessive site work (read: no standing tall under the sun, observing construction workers do their work and designing super complex structures)

This 5-day workshop is being conducted by ESRI India (big name in the GIS field). Basically, what they are doing is teaching us their software (ArcView, ArcMap, Arc…) which costs more than a million rupees and indirectly, shamelessly promoting it to future engineering masterminds. Don’t judge me wrong, I appreciate their initiative to come down to VJTI and give us a glorified demo but you don’t have to lick your product to such limits. Anyways, I’m not complaigning. I’ve got this chance to learn something which I’m really interested in (for a change) and I will do everything to not let this go down the drain again.

Another great aspect to this story: I asked the guy if he could install a ‘genuine’ copy of ArcInfo on my laptop and he said yes. But then I also managed to quickly copy the installation files on pen drive, so doesn’t matter much after all. Yes, I will take my laptop to college the entire week and use it in real sense of the term. That’s it for now. I’m super busy this week, in case I don’t reply to your messages, you know the reason! Thanks.

100 and 10 Indian Rupees Coin

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

This one goes out to my long-lost school pals. All those suckers who thought I was kidding about these ‘special coins’ which were kept in a secret stash at my home. I may have gone a bit overboard with the stash thing but well…these are special right?

So, for those who’ve not been fortunate enough to see the 100 and 10 Rupees coins, watch these pics closely!

That’s right, 1982. To cross-check, refer the wiki entry.

Sodding Examinations

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

This time I’ve been caught napping. Usually my calculations concerning the exams, the preparation required, time at hand, etc… are very good. When you study everything at the last moment, you gotta have that. Now, all thanks to Diwali celebrations, the days leading up to it and those during the actual festival, were wasted cleaning my room, attending to guests, poojas, and all other stuff you’d associate with Diwali.

But now, Diwali is just about to end and the very next day my seventh semester exams begin. So, I have to get out of the festive mood and get in to the serious examination mode for cramming/rapid reading/visual reproduction or all of those. And that has to happen right NOW! It’s 00:25 on Sunday. The first test starts in a day. This is usually the time when i say to myself: the next sem would be different, I will not keep things for the final day, I will try to get the same marks with minimum efforts and so on. But I guess no time to do that either. Unleashing these feelings on a personal blog can do a lot of good to your mental state and that is what I’m banking on right now.

See ya guys sometime later.

Ganpati Bappa Morya!

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

I’m a bit late to post this. Actually very late, so late that these pics are posted after the visarjan. This time I’m blaming it on Twenty20 matches, my excellent attendance in College, Internets and some other not-so-important stuff.

So, now that I’ve got a digicam this year, I plan to post no less than three pics. I’m sure that would please HIM a lot. Continuing with the same old family tradition, the statue of Lord Ganesha continues to be the same. Enough of the jibber-jabber, here are the pics…

Ganpati Bappa Morya (more…)

What a day this has been, What a rare mood I’m in…

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Okay, I won’t quote the entire song. I was just dying to use it once after listening to it first on a CSI episode.

Getting back to the topic of this post:

Couldn’t have asked for a better day after the exams. Bunked college, slept like crazy for 10 hrs in the day. Got up, did my rounds of browsing the internet for interesting stuff and news. A very long day in that.

The India-England 6th ODI went right down to the wire. Sachin played true to his real self. Robin Utthapa somehow managed to play some cheeky shots and won the game for India. I don’t think anyone else in the Indian team would have pulled 20-odd runs from 15 balls. Not even Dhoni. So, that was some time well spent watching cricket on TV.

Between cricket and surfing, I got linked back here on from engadget for tipping them on a news. For the Lenovo ThinkPad Reserve Edition. Actually, I wanted to get it linked back to LaptopLogic, but the Engadget news editors had something else in mind. So, they linked the source to some PR agency. We had recieved the news directly from Lenovo (agreed to embargo). So, well, the backlink, got a lot of hits for my blog. Feels nice! But the original aim of tipping Engadget was not achieved. So, I kinda feel bad for it. It wasn’t in my hands.. so, I guess nothing can be done about it.

The Apple Special Event was a 10/10 on the excitement scale. Honestly, the most kick-ass ever within the last couple of years that I’m tracking them. Most of the stuff which were announced are some real VFM. The new 4GB Nano or the 80GB iPod classic would be my choice of PMP at the US price. Conversion in rupees when it’s launched here will make me change my decision. I know. I don’t think this will ever change. Greed, taxes or just inflation (is that the right word?)..whatever be the reason behind it.

A few days back I expressed my love for Kubrick as my personal preferred choice of WordPress theme. Out-of-nowhere, some coders have started expressing similar affection for it by rolling out modded themes similar to it. The good ones. There’s a three-column Kubrick and Kubrick with some good AJAX abilities. Will give them a try later this weekend.

So, that’s just about it. Couple of hectic days ahead at college and then the much needed weekend.

The AXN Teasers

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

You know those TV-show teasers which AXN throws between the shows. How their lineup consists of some of the very best TV shows out there. Right from CSI, House, 24, Supernatural, The Shield and some others. Right now, I so wish that I hadn’t see all of them. That way, I would get something to look forward to on the TV.

But, anyways some of my favorite TV shows return for their next season sometime later this month. House and Prison Break start from 25th and 17th respectively. There’s CSI Season 8 starting around the same time. Dexter S2 starts too. In all likelihood, I may get a Rapidshare premium account because downloading so many GBs via torrents is something I don’t wanna get into. Probably get it in October since most of these shows resume in second half of September. Speaking of October, it’s that time of the year again.
