Geoffrey Boycott is back…

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

Nice to see Geoffrey Boycott back on the Indian television, doing what he does best with his cricket commentary. Havent seen him in action actually except for the promo I saw, but hopefully we see him soon in this Pak series. Yes, on Ten Sports, with hardly any cricket on ESPN-Star I guess he joined hands with the right channel - atleast for us. Finally some much needed break from the usual Javagal Srinath and Laxman Shivaramakrishnan.

What I am actually looking forward to is his views on the whole Ganguly issue. He was such a big Ganguly fan some years ago.

Once again, Welcome back Geoffrey Boycott..

A few days back, I recieved a mail from Tata Indicom Broadband stating the infection from the Sober.ag worm . They apparently seemed to offer a one month trial copy Trend Micro antivirus software. They had also made a offer to subscribe for the same antivirus service for a small sum of 50 Rs. per month.

Back then, I thought it was just another gimmick to procure more money from their customers. I was wrong. I figured it out last night on News.com, that ISP’s were asked to do the same to clean the infection.

That just shows how narrow minded we are at times. Makes me think for a while, ISPs are not that bad in India except for the bandwidth they provide.

Small world we live in…

Call it a co-incidence or a stroke of luck, a friend of mine was searching for the exam results on google with a search string vjti+results ( i dont understand why he was doing that) and happened to land up on my blog through it. This guy was none other than my co-partner for the whole of first year in our engineering course in VJTI. We had our serial nos one after another, mine was 23 and his followed. If I got through the first year with minimum difficulty, he had a major part in making that happen. Forget about the usual, what happened last week in the practicals, when are we supposed to submit the next assignment and stuff, I have literally relied on him for everything. If it hadnt been for this guy - Akhil Kale, I would have seriously been a defaulter in Drawing II for Second Semester. I had missed college for a couple of weeks due to the demise of my grandma and as a result all my drawing submission sheets were incomplete. I had taken the entire drawing submission folder of this good buddy of mine overnite and GT’ed everything. And guess what? I got more marks than him out of the 20 marks which were alloted for TA ( Teachers Assesment ). So that sums it all up for this guy, Isn’t It?

And after googling, he landed on my blog, the obvious thing happened. He clicked on the About Me Page and realized that it was the same Sourabh which he knew, then mebbe he checked the Contact Me page on this blog to get the y!m id , contacted me in y!m and then the realization followed and everythings slated above.

If you were wondering, how are we not in touch now, thats because we are in different branches ( Civil and Electrical Engineering ) and hardly met each other since we both have been bunking colleges for separate reasons. Anyways it was good to meet a good old friend of mine in such a e-way. So the title … ‘Small Worls we live in…’ ….LOL turned out to be quite a big writeup.

lol! they stole my idea..

Though the news is like a few days old now, but got hold of it a lil late. Its about a collection of open source software bundled on a cd and sold online. Its called RaptorHead open source CD for Windows. And whats so great abt this open source compilation ? Its sold at a price tag of $19.99. Wonder who would be willing to buy after paying for it rather than just download it easily from the net.

>Raptorhead CD

Bundle OpenOffice.org, TurboCASH, the GIMP, and some installation scripts on a CD. Round out the package with Gaim and Firefox, and sell it in retail stores to Windows users for $20.

Morgan Lim and Steve Edwards thought it made sense, and assembled a select set of open source applications in one easy-to-install package. After seeing demand for their CDs among friends, they founded RaptorHead to bring open source to the masses. Here are my adventures with version 1.0.
