Tata Indicom Broadband’s new face
Yet again, I am writing about Tata Indicom Broadband. Went to their office to change my broadband plans. Got a nice ’shift of Broadband section to near Akbarallys on VN Purav Marg’ sticker waiting for me. Even Tata realized what a waste of real estate their Broadband department was in their multi-storeyed building. So much that they trashed them 200 metres away from their main building.
The new office is just besides the Bata Showroom, near Akbarallys - Fort. Quite a lot of money had been put in apparently for no reason. So, now I realized that only thier new look on their website, was not the only change. All the staff were seen doing nonsense stuff, chatting on yahell, talking on phone with their gf’s and sipping tea. Pathetic to see, there were people waiting in queue on the first floor for God knows what reasons. And NO! I wasn’t at their place at lunch time, if you were wondering. The whole new staff had no clue how to go about things. I ended up explanining the procedures how things were done before. Paid my pending bills and submitted the plan change form.
I just hope they do the needed pretty soon and I get a lil better speed from what TRAI calls broadband. Hell I am paying 2k INR for this, it better be something nice with no hidden upload capping at 64kbps like BSNL Dataone.

BSNL ul 900 is far cheaper than spending 2k on indicom 512kbps connection. then why go for plan upgrade in TATA?
…and whatever became of your application for BSNL broadband?
even with the cost of purchasing a bsnl modem, it would’ve worked out cheaper.
rest is upto you !
let’s hope that you DO get the speed increase this time around rather than just the cost increase.

I am intereseted in broadband and was interested in BSNL. Wanted to know how their services are in Kolkata.
Is the usage between 2-8AM in the Home 500 plan really free, means I can download abd upload any amount I want? What about the speeds in the Home unlimited plan? Does tarriff cover the basic phone rent charges or any other cost?
Please advice.

I am a 5 year old customer of VSNL with id anupam.sri@vsnl.ne. When Tata Indicom guys contacted me for a broadband i agreed looking at there good services for the past years i used there services. But for my surprise
1. It took almost 2 months for them to give a connection.
2. The day they gave me a connection, there sever was not working leaving me unconnected for 7-8 days.
3. Finally I got the connection working thy gave me 512Kbps connection where i had requested them for 64 Kbps on & on Connection (suitable for home surfing)
4. Now the Manager here asked me to not to use the connection for 2-3 days till he changed my Plan
5. It took them another month to update my Plan.
6. Now the connection never works and I have to work still on the dialup
7. My telephone bill has risen exponentially as I use dial up and call there ‘pathetic’ customer care on a daily basis without any turnout.
8. I requested them to cancel all stuff and give me Id back which they are refusing.
Its total blackmail I am facing right now. I can’t get my 5 year old id back and nobody listens to my complaints. Any help in this regard would be welcome.

Your pathetic service never seems to get better.
Please deactivate my connection effective July 01, 2006. Make sure I have the connection till June 30, 2006, as I have already paid for it.

Even I have experienced problems with Tata Indicom & thats the reason I have come here searching for other reviews. I wish I had read all this before taking the connection 4 months back.
I renewed my account 1 month back & still I am not able to connect.
So I am going ahead with filling a complaint with the Mumbai Grahak Panchayat (Consumer Court). If anybody has followed this route please let me know the end result of the case. Email - brijgadh@yahoo.com. Anybody who is interested in joining the fight can also write to me. (I am from Mumbai)
Our time & efforts should be compensated by VSNL. Its not acceptable that we suffer & the company enjoys with our money. They need to be more responsible.
If Tata Indicom cannot taken any action against their employees ( Govt. Employees) atleast they should pay for it.
In future they might improve the service and all our woes will be forgotten. So at present it is like ‘Live with what you got.’

This is the second such dirty incident with TATA indicom. Following are the Incident
1) My brother had brought a TATA indicom connection because they were giving Internet connection after Connecting Data Cable to the Handset. They provided us with the Handset but did not provide us with the DATA Cable. We had to go to variety of TATA indicom franchise Store located in Nearby Area but They to could not provide us with the same due to which we got frustrated and disconnected the Connection. My brother also spoke to the call centre located in Pune but was getting all false promise from the team member and the TEAM LEADER When My brother went to return the handset he was charged Rs 900 only for two days. And in the next month we got Rs 1500 bill due.This was a pathetic situation. TATA had spoiled there name after coming in Telecom Sector they were best in car motor and Trucks
2) My Brother again brought TATA indicom Broad band Connection on 18 June 2006 we paid Mr. Nayan Vadel (Team Member, Cell no 9324260692) Rs 999 for the broad band Connection he told us within seven days your internet will be connected on the eight day when I called him up he told me that building was not coming in the feasible area he even told me that he would return me the check within One week time and he himself would be dropping the cheque at my home. To day is 17 August 2006 we have not recived the cheque as of yet when I (Dominic) spoke to Mr. Abbas he told me that you will have to speak to Mr. Nayan Vadel (Cell no 9324260692)When I spoke to him he told me that he has dispatched the cheque (Was told on 10 August 2006) But again on Questioning him on 11August 2006 he told me that he will talk to the concern person regarding the same. This was lie told to me by him.
TATA should stop In Telecom business

I myself work for a Tata company and find this really disappointing that I am saying something bad about Tata Indicom but I have been let down way too often. I have had really bad experiences with Tata Indicom that you can read here

i faced similar problem of NO CONNECTION for about a month. The WAN link light for some reason (only TATA knows) keep blinking and wont settle down. For having proper connection this light has to be GREEN and ALWAYS ON. Now that is something you all know.
Lets come to my heartburn. I mailed customer care about the problem. no one replied or called me back. again i mailed them and tried to call customer care number. but every time i’ll get a message that my wait time will be more than 20 mins and it disconnects. so.. i’m getting mad as i couldn’t talk to someone on the problem.. but strange things started happening.. i use to get the connection when it rains .. i suddenly becom superstitious and started praying for rain (at least GOD can help me now). I needed the connection very badly so that i can check my mails, do some office work and get an edge over others in catching up with work, plus to sell or buy stock/share etc.. but i couldn’t do that.. anyhow i escalated and asked for extending my validity for the lost days (i use prepaid service) but they added the amount without increasing the days.. how can i use them within that month with such bad connection.. i felt its a eyewashing thing..
now i’ll come to the strange part.. as a TATA employee.. i feel so loyal and want to take the service again from them.. so enquired for new connection and they are going to come tomorrow to collect cheque for 3000 i.e. 6 months plan..
i was guarantted by that sales person that he can give me contact# of all big shots in chennai office to whom i can communicate and their Time to resolve is 2 hours.. etc etc… want to know if this is true and can i rely these guys again??? its a six month deal.. and i dont want those 6 months fighting with them for better service and connection…

I just got Tata Indicom broadband a month back and twice (only??) it refused to connect for no reason whatsover!! Their response is poor but i have no other chhoice

Applied for BSNL around October end dont know when i ll get that .. Any idea about howz BSNL tech support and all? And with their new 2Mbps thing …….
1 thing for sure, i learned i shudnt b 2 surprised if my Tata Ind connection/ bill/change of plan/whatever gets messed up …

I have a post-paid 512k–3GB/mo. plan in Pune (Bhosale Nagar) for last 9 months.
On the plus side:
1) Speed is always 512
2) Downtime from technical problems averages around 3Hr per month (I may have not noticed other outages)
On the minus side:
1) Even though the post-paid check gets collected at my door, and having received a phone call regarding the payment - My service gets disconnected for two+ days due to “non-payment”
2) Although the call-center people are very professional, If the problem is anything other than restarting your router they have NO ABILITY TO FIX THE PROBLEM and you must wait ’till next day or longer to actually have it fixed.
3) WATCH OUT if you have a metered connection - you can easily go over your monthly downloads - I was not informed on how to check for this and lost thousands of rupees when all I had to do was change my plan. Installation people should show the user how to do that.

We have shifted from our Previous Office premises of ***********, Pune to new office premises at ********************* Pune, I have a prepaid broadband connection from October 2006. Now when we have moved I expect to be wired to internet from the new premises too which is hardly 2 kms from the previous location.
After long discussions between **************** of our firm and your customer care executives and then to their team leader Mahesh Pillay on 15/02/2007 it was communicated that our new office cannot be wired as the capacity of your ports in the area where our new premises is located, has exceeded the capacity.
I have an understanding that shifting of connections can be done within a range of 3.0 kms from the previous port. If this is the case then why am I being made to face this inconvenience?
I expect a positive reply to be able to keep a long lasting relation with Tata and VSNL.

Most of the times I am not able to connect….. Worst speed…… I don’t have any other provider in my area…. so I am forced to use this….. Never go in for this…. The service guys never solve any problem. The call center registers a fake complaint….. Most of the times the server keeps going down. No wireless modem also…. Too much of wires…. Can be the last possible choice for anyone

TATA INDICOM SUCKS BIG TIME! This FUCKED UP COMPANY doesnt know what customer service is … I have made a major mistake by takin up the 3 month prepaid plan … I wish i stayed with my earlier provider (which i surely will be goin back after these harrowing 3 months are over) The connection is down almost every other day .. frequent breakdowns .. they take almost 2 to 3 days to restore connection .. I am losing out on a lot of money and clients.. but these suckers dont care a fuck for their customers … DO NOT take a TATA INDICOM connetion .. it ll be a total loss of your TIME and MONEY ..

TataIndicom can even offer 100GB per month because itz assued that u will never be able to get connected and use the connection. Go for TataIndicom if u have so much money to throw away. attractive rates. problem is that u will have to spend double the amount on phone begging these people for service. i have taken a pre-paid connection. (Super Value Offer). After 3 months, I could not even consume 50MB till date though they offered 1GB /month because i hardly got connection. itz fast but average connectivity is 2 hrs in one week. When u call the service people they reply like “Server problems, wait for 2 days / Server problem solved, tomorrow you send me an SMS / Our technicians are too lazy yaar, what to do? / All technicians are on leave, what to do? / what to do” / “Cabling problem sir, What to do” / “I am sleeping sir” / “I have a headache sir, can you call me tomorrow” / “Your problem is not yet solved sir? Our server is perfectly ok now sir. I will send somebody to check the cabling sir / I am on leave sir” They lack basic manners while they take somebody’s money and offer a service. Though they offer connection within two days, I got it after 4 weeks. After all these issues, i called up the sales guy as if I am a new customer and I want to take one connecton. He offered a connection with in 2 days. I asked him “What if not happens with in 2 days?”. I was completely impressed of his 300% assurance of a connection in 2 days (luckly I didn’t apply for another connection and wasted my money!!!!!). TATA INDICOM CHEATERS

Hi,
Recently I am experiencing a very bad service from VSNL boradband.
My internet connection is not working.
No proper response from the call center excecutives.
The Engineer doesn’t know how to fix the issue.( I don’t know how he is recruited).
Moreover there is no response to the e-mails I am sending to them.
I want to know about, how long will it take to receive the e-mail.
Totally I am fed up being with TATA INDICOM (VSNL).
I wanted to be a loyal customer to them, but they have spoilt it because of their service.
If anyone has a proper explaination please mail me.

A few users reported problems visiting my site. The one thing they all had in common was TATA indicom. After a little research including this blog I warned the users, it was problems with their Broadband not the site.

Hi,
I am person suffered 3 months with the service of TATA Indicom. Worst service I have ever seen in my life. I had their Broadband… known for the poor performance. then bought a USB Modem worked for 3 weeks and now for the last three months behind them for a replacment for the defective modem.. For any telecom requirements any other company will be good. NOT `TATA’
I know 6-7 people with bad experience with Tata Teleservices.
They are still sleeping…. do not disturb.

it was extremely stupid of me not to appreciate all the big warnings and became a sucker of the hoardings that declared that their internet is good. I am going to get to the bottom of this - there is no way they can get away with horrible tech support and mis informed inquiry of the call centre people - HECK THEY DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY WHEN SOMEONE WANTS TO SUE THEM!!!
since there are such a lot of people (i am from ahmedabad, many are from mumbai) we should put an end to this..

I took a connection 5 days back …in kolkata..the net was given in 2 days but from the nect day theres no connection ..the link light is not glowing only its already 4 days gone I am just calling them like mad ..NEVER take TATA INDICOM

Tata Indicom’s Customer care is just degrading tata’simage.
They do not care, they are sort of advisors which does not help
and only costs in money and time.
I am frustrated now with their free non working advices.

Hi,
I m using tata indicome from 2 years. it did not work 2-3 days in a months(This is minium.), But now i annoyed with this broad band connection. i have not been using it for last 10 days. i did call in customer service 10 times. Always they said me “i m forwarding you complain to the preority basis to the technical department”. i m waiting for expiry time of my connection for removing this connection.
Nerver go for Tata Indicom Broad band Connection.

Before taking up a ISP I decided to have a look at the broadband forums to find the various ISP in Pune
I took up the TATA Indicom ( wired ) broadband services in Pune. Now it seems all the stories are coming true to me..
I paid hard cash so that they wouldn’t need to clear the money through cheque.. The guy from tata broadband who collected the registration forms told me they require 5 days to install the Cable line.
Even after 25 days they have not yet installed the broadband. I paid them Installation ( 1000 Rs) + Deposit ( 1000 Rs ) + 1 months advance payment 1000 Rs + 12.5 servie Tax ( 250 Rs to the Blood and sweat sucking Govt from which Of course there is nothing that I or we can expect ) . The total amount came to 3250 Rs ..
I called the service guy many a times.every time he would say that an engineer is being sent say around 3:30 PM .. then from 3:30 PM I would find his cell phone off till the next day ..
The month is about to be over for which I have already paid the advance payment..So it seems that my 1000 Rs advance payment has already gone down the dirty TATA drain as I have to still go into Cybercafe for internet
I am planning to cut off the broadband connection as soon as it is installed. My money and time both are lost.. if YOU wouldn’t like to waste your time and send money down the dirty drain don’t never ever install TATA BROADBAND.
Characteristics of the TATA Broadband services :
1.) If the TATA guys comes and tries to get cheque / money from you in a hurriedly ( hasty ) manner agreeing to everything you say then he is planning to screw you up your ass at any cost.
2.) He would tell you that he would install the Cable on the 5 day then he means that install it on the 25th day or thereafter.. Some smarty tata guy would tell they would install the next day or as soon as possible .. all these means the same.
3.) You would ring him on his cell phone . he would readily pick up the phone addressing you as Sir or Madam and would tell you that he is sending the guy at 4:30 PM .. It means that you would find his cell phone from that time till infinity
4.) every time you would ask about the status of your connection. They will make excuses that they have lot many connections to install.
5.) You might not get the Service or the broadband .. but these beggars will send the bill on time, that is for sure
